OUR mission

To provide a learner-centered, experience-based and project-driven alternative education program for homeschooling families of innovative children who wish to benefit from meaningful educational and social enrichment as part of a microschool community of learners, parents, and teachers.

What is scholé?

Restful Learning

Our educational philosophy is inspired by the concept of scholé, or “restful learning.” We believe in education for the pursuit of truth, beauty, and goodness, not for checking boxes. Our philosophy is best described as classical progressivism: in order to be part of the “great conversation” of human history, one must be familiar with the canon of knowledge, however, the best way to truly become educated is through real, hands-on experiences, self-motivated learning, and learning side-by-side with others.

our goals

001.

To provide an experiential, project-based learning environment.

002.

To integrate the benefits of home and institutional learning.

003.

To provide a setting for group problem solving and the social construction of knowledge.

004.

To form a partnership community among families, students, and teachers.

005.

To support students’ whole being through extensive opportunities for movement, play, and being outdoors in a home-like environment.

006.

To foster students’ creativity and autonomy by supporting self-directed learning during exploratory time and through the integration of informal learning activities in the classroom.

Our Vision

Your child’s days at school will be interesting, fun, and engaging. They’ll learn science through experiments, labs, and nature study, history through projects and re-enactments, literature through group discussion and play, math through games and puzzles, critical thinking through problem solving and debate, STEM through inquiry and projects, and the arts through experience and expression. One exciting feature of our program is a daily Exploration time, where students can grapple with deep questions and design their own studies with friends and teachers based on their interests and curiosities. Each Friday, a field trip relating to the coursework will be offered to students and parents.

The school is set in a relaxed environment where students have freedom to move, interact, and spend lots of time outdoors learning in and through nature. The classrooms are mixed age cohorts, where students are grouped by ability in each subject area rather than age. The goal is to create an intentional community of students, teachers, and highly involved parents that can learn, serve, and live together.

The hybrid school program opened in 2022 with a pilot program as a homeschool cooperative, and launched as a drop-off program in 2023. Class days are twice per week, with an additional field trip offered every Friday. Subjects include science, social studies, literature, writing, math games and critical thinking, music, art, nature study, and Explorations. Parents offer individual instruction in language arts and math during days at home, as well as supplemental preparation for class subjects.
