FAQ

A hybrid school is an alternative education model that combines at-home learning and institutional instruction. Students attend class two days per week, attend field trips one day per week, and learn at home the remainder of the week.

The program rents space at a church located in North Arlington. We do not have any affiliation with the church outside of our space agreement.

We meet for classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9am-4pm, and for field trips for a couple of hours on Fridays (generally in the morning).

Unfortunately, no. We are striving to build a community of learners, parents, and teachers, and this requires consistent attendance by all.

No, students are dropped off for class days. Field trips are co-op style–parents attend with their student, and are welcome to bring little siblings along!

Parents will select their own curriculum for at-home core subjects (language arts and math). These subjects are best taught in an individualized manner, and we want you to select what best meets your child’s needs. These skills will be practiced in a group setting through enrichment activities on class days. We will meet regularly with parents to develop a comprehensive educational plan that coordinates home and class activities.

We designed the program with the unique needs of gifted and twice exceptional students in mind! The dynamic, hands on environment allows gifted and 2e students the opportunity to engage in higher order thinking skills, practice creativity, and develop high levels of engagement in their learning. This environment is one in which all students can thrive, but it is particularly suited to the stimulation and challenge that helps gifted and 2e students thrive.

In addition, students are placed in classes based on their individual need for challenge or support, not solely on the basis of grade level. This means that a student might be with his grade level cohort for some subjects, but not others. For example, a 5th grader who excels in science may be moved to the middle school class for that subject area.

Giftedness comes in many forms. It can look like advanced academic abilities, but it can also look like excellent leadership skills, outstanding artistic or athletic abilities, high emotional intelligence, and more. Often, these positive qualities are accompanied with challenges like intensity and perfectionism. These learners thrive in nontraditional learning environments–if your child needs an out-of-the-box learning environment to thrive, you may very well have a gifted learner!

We are organized under a Christian faith-based 501(c)3 corporation. While we are inspired by our faith to share a love of learning, truth, goodness, and beauty, we do not offer specific theological or Biblical education. As a program rooted in the tradition of Classical education, references to Christian scripture, virtues, and morality are incorporated within our curriculum. To read more, please visit the blog post “Our Faith as the Why of Learning.”

Families of any faith are welcome to apply. Participants and parents’ behavior while on campus must be consistent with our code of conduct and dress code, which reflects a traditional understanding of Christian values and morality.

We are an educational resource center and homeschool enrichment program. Since we provide fewer than 180 hours of instruction, we are not considered a private school in the State of Virginia. Parents will need to register their student as a homeschooler with their school district and follow all applicable requirements.

We are classified as a “religiously exempt child day center” under state and local law, and are in compliance with all legal requirements.
